Children’s Theatre Foundation (CTF) was founded in 1981 as a non-profit organization to raise funds to support theatre arts programs for children in the community. From 1981 to 2002, we supported programs such as a community based musical production, Ebenezer, based on Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol, written by Bob Voigt, Gary Frame and Glen Williams, and the Oregon Project, I Must Walk Toward Oregon, written by playwright Sandra Archer, in cooperation with area senior citizens and CET students.
In 2002, CTF was reorganized with an expanded mission to support theatre arts programs in the mid-Willamette Valley. Through 2019, we have funded numerous programs with 685 students from grades kindergarten through high school directly participating in over 50 performances and including hundreds of members of the community viewing the performances.
CTF partners with the Salem-Keizer School District to sponsor the annual Ulmer-Collins Project. The drama conference is made possible by a memorial fund set up in the name of two local and gifted Salem high school drama teachers, Tom Ulmer and Ken Collins. This event gives life to their dream to provide students, teachers, and parents in Salem-Keizer an educational arena where:
~ Students further their classroom theatre education by having workshops in dance, acting, voice and technical theatre;
~Theatre teachers develop educational continuity, practice, and inspiration; and
~Parents discover ways to support a performing arts program in their school community and the larger community of Salem-Keizer.
